Classic Car Rentals for a Special Day

Bryce Stone asked:

The term classic car is frequently used to describe an older car. However, the exact meaning of the term classic car varies. Some may define a classic car as any car made before 1948. Other people define it as an antique car registration that was made over 15 years ago and can still function well and maintained in a condition that is adequately comfortable according to the manufacturer’s specifications. Whichever way one may define it, the agreement in all cases is that it is a car that is over 15 or more years old since the date of manufacture.

Classic cars are prestigious and many people want an opportunity to ride in one. This is why many manufacturers have decided to put up businesses on maintaining these cars in good condition. The classic cars may be very expensive to buy as they carry some sort of memory and history to them. However, many companies have come up with a way in which one can easily use the classic car for special occasions at a much lower cost. Renting classic cars has become a booming business in many countries because of the luxury and prestige the classic cars hold.

Make that special day memorable by using the car one has been dreaming of, classic car rentals will make the dream come true at least for a short period of time. The problem that one may encounter is finding the company that deals with the car rentals. One can locate the companies online and choose the nearest location. Some of the advantages of finding the classic car rentals online are that websites have displayed the directories of all the companies dealing with classic car rentals. On the websites, one will find over 120 classic car rental companies to choose from in more than twelve countries with over 1200 cars to choose from, which are updated each week.

For special occasions like weddings, one would like to know the process of renting a classic car. The answer to this is simple since there are very many classy cars available especially for weddings, one can select from the various categories. Most available cars are Ford Model T or Ford Model A, Essex Super Six, Rolls-Royces Silver Clouds, Bentleys Pontiac Bonneville and Mustangs. These cars are normally on high demand and the best way to secure one is to book early in advance, possibly the moment one has set a wedding date.

When renting a classic car one needs to know that not all classic cars are limos hence they do not have too much space between the driver and the bride and groom making the issue of privacy challenging. Before renting the classic car, it should be clear of grease on the doors, windows or even the floor of the car as this could stain the brides dress. The classic cars are rare and elegant when driven around. One should not miss the opportunity to use the prestigious classic cars for a special event.

Green Car Insurance Kind to the Environment But not Your Pocket

LuckySeven asked:

When London’s congestion charge was first introduced in February 2003, it was done so with numerous goals in mind including reducing the volume of traffic, boosting road safety and reducing harmful emissions.

However, as we approach the fifth anniversary of its implementation, one environmental website is claiming that Transport for London’s latest proposals could backfire on the environment.

The proposal is that cars with emissions of 120g/km and below will be exempt from congestion charging. However, a report from AEA suggests that this could increase the number of cars in the congestion zone, resulting in more cars moving slowly and therefore an increase in emissions.

As a consequence, the environmental website has suggested an alternative proposal with a stricter 110g/km target and a staggered charging system.

Whichever proposal gets the go-ahead, it’s yet more incentive for drivers to ‘go green’.

Already green cars fit into lower tax bands, meaning lower annual payments. However, that’s just the beginning with savings to be made on car insurance too.

Many insurers will offer cheap car insurance to green car drivers who are seen as more likely to reduce their car journeys and therefore are less prone to accidents.

If you’re more interested in the environment than saving cash then there are now a number of ‘green car insurance’ policies, which offer to offset carbon emissions by contributing as much as 10% of your premiums to green projects.

However, it is questionable as to whether these green policies are truly the best option for the environment.

You could be better off shopping around for a traditional car insurance policy. By finding cheap car insurance and saving as much money as you can, you can then put the cash you save towards the green project of your choice and effectively cut out the ‘middle man’.

Buy Cheap Cars For Sale – Cheap Car Buying Tips

Ricky Lim asked:

These days, our society has become more prone to the luxurious life. People want to live with all the comforts, big houses, bungalows, good food and wine, and most of all nice cars.

Cars have become so easy to buy these days that every plebian can own one. It is no more considered a status symbol of the rich and wealthy. There are many companies who sell cars at a low price. These may be second-hand, but still they are worth the price.

There are many places you can look for to buy cheap cars for sale. Car dealerships, car auctions, and classifieds all do this business. Usually, cheap cars are used cars. One way to buy cheap used cars is through the internet.

There are a lot of resources available and only little knowledge is required. Another place to find cheap cars is government seized car auctions. Here, most of the cars are cheap and it depends on the other customers. The person with the highest bid will get the car.

However, regardless of where you are buying the cheap car, it is very important to do the necessary research first. The dealership should be a reliable one and make sure to ask around to find out if there was any fraud associated with that specific dealership.

Also, the car should be economical to you and profitable. All the paperwork should be done to avoid any surprises later.

There are many important things to be kept in mind when buying a cheap car. The major concerns to watch out for are the equipment inside the car, mileage, and warranty. To avoid having any regrets later, a thorough research must be done before buying a cheap car.

There are several questions to ask yourself when buying a cheap used car.

Firstly, how much is the budget? Under this, insurance, any repairs, maintenance costs should be included.

Secondly, what type of car do you wish to buy? The car should suit your lifestyle and image. It’s important to gather information from friends, family, and colleagues.

Next, how much mileage is on the car? Many used car dealers do fraud by manipulating the odometer to read lesser number of miles. Also, make sure to take the car on a test drive.

Make sure the engine starts immediately without any weird sounds and test out the steering, brakes etc. All these tips must be kept in mind when buying cheap cars on sale.

Definition of a Classic Car

Bryce Stone asked:

The term classic car is often used in the description of older cars, although the correct meaning is generally subjected to different opinions.  There are hence a variety of applications that can be applied in defining a classic car especially when ‘classic’ is applied in the form of an adjective and this is also true in the case of a dictionary definition. A certain dictionary defined the term “classic car” as “distinguished by outstanding engineering, fine workmanship and elegant styling built around 1925 to 1948 .”

The above definition sounded quite close to one given by CCCA (Classic Car Club of America) whose definition was, ‘unusual or fine motor cares built between as well as inclusive of the years 1925-1948. These are all special cars respectively distinguished by their fine design, superior workmanship and advanced engineering standards. Classic cars were generally high-priced while in new conditions and the built quantities were limited.  Certain factors including custom coachwork, engine displacement as well as luxury accessories such as power clutch, power brakes and one-shot lubrication systems assist in determining whether a car can be considered as being a Classic.

CCCA  maintains an endless list of vehicles considered to be classic and although all members are permitted to petition for a preferred vehicle to be part of the list, there is careful scrutinizing of such applications and it is rare to find any admittance for new types of vehicles. This definition is rather exclusive and hardly followed universally, and while CCCA acknowledges this, it still insists that its own definition of the term ‘classic car’ is true. However, to avert confusion, certain terms like CCCA Classic or Full Classic are used. Most states in the US have legal time-based rules regarding this definition for certain purposes like registration of antique vehicles.

The definition in Pennsylvania is “motor vehicle” unlike a reproduction, the manufacture date being 15  years before the present year and it has been restored and maintained in a condition that conforms with the manufacturer’s appearance and specifications. United Kingdom does not have a classic car definition although there are two issues on taxation that have an impact. All vehicles manufactured before 1st January 1973 are not required to pay the road tax excise duty which is paid annually. It is usually inclusive of the license disc as part of the windscreen.

There are certain insurance companies that deem any car that is 20 years and above to be eligible for a policy of classic cars, although the car must be 25 years or above to qualify for the license plate of historical vehicles in most states. In comparison to modern cars, classic cars lack the basic features of safety as they are nowadays referred to. These lacking basic features include rollover protection, crumple zones and seat belts. The handling characteristics of the vehicle especially the suspension and the steering as well as the brake performance prove to poorer in comparison to the current standards. Extra care is needed for classic cars.

Car Rental in Italy

Car Guru asked:

decided to visit Europe when we found out my sister was chosen to go on a trip to France for the World Cup in 2008 with DriveAway Holidays, sponsored by Peugeot. We thought we would join her in Italy – I can’t let my sister have all the fun now can I?

I have to admit the flight felt like it was never going to end and was very tiring, but when we finally arrived in Rome we were all excited again. We collected our car from Rome Fiumicino Airport and the Europcar depot was easily found with numerous signs pointing us in the right direction.

After the papers were signed and completed, we found our vehicle and to our surprise we were upgraded to a sporty Alfa Romeo Station Wagon so we were ready to drive in luxury like Italians in our Italian car. Our confidence was knocked a little though when we struggled trying to find our way out of the parking lot! Who would have thought it would be so complicated?

Luckily we hired the Seymour GPS which definitely saved a lot of time and fights! The GPS made our driving and traveling a lot smoother and more straight forward, which is exactly what you need on a holiday. Rome was truly spectacular with lots of historical attractions and museums to visit. My sister got engaged in the St Pietro Cathedral while we were there which made the trip even more special. It was very romantic and sure did bring tears to my eyes!

My favourite attraction in Rome was the Trevi fountain. The tradition is to toss a coin in the fountain to make a wish, and then toss a second coin to one day return to Italy. Hope it works!

From Rome we drove to Naples and with the help of our GPS, driving wasn’t as hard as we first thought. Soon we were used to the crazy speeds on the motorways and driving on the wrong side of the road, it all didn’t seem so strange anymore. In Naples we booked the Amalfi Coast tour and the views were truly beautiful. In Positano, we sampled the strong taste of the famous Italian liquor Limoncelo and some mouth watering local chocolates.

From Naples we drove on to Milan for an overnight stay and then continued to Florence. Florence was remarkable and we were all amazed at the famous artworks. I studied these works in high school so it was pretty amazing to stand right in front of them. I absolutely loved Michelangelo’s David statue, if I had the chance I would have stared at it all day!

Our car rental experience ended in Venice at the Pizzale Roma near the ferry terminal. After all our shopping, our luggage seemed a lot heavier than we expected but we managed to drag them along.

Venice was my favourite place in Italy. Ancient buildings built on top of water, it was so unique and wonderful. We had the chance to take a ride on the gondolas through the canals and under the bridges and we chose the perfect timing as it was sunset. Our hotel was right beside Louis Vuitton and Prada so we did lots of window shopping!

After Venice we booked a flight to Paris. The Eiffel Tower was our favourite attraction and when we reached the top, there were amazing views of the city. Although it was very crowded with tourists due to the World Cup, it was definitely worthwhile, we were so overwhelmed with the views that the crowds didn’t really bother us. At night the Eiffel Tower lit up with lazer light shows and in the colours of the World Cup winner, South Africa, which was pretty amazing.

The car rental in Italy gave us the freedom to explore many towns and hidden gems between our destinations. It was sheer pleasure driving a luxury car in Italy with the help of our handy little friend the Seymour GPS. I highly recommend a car hire and GPS system to anyone traveling overseas. This was a family holiday that was exhausting with the numerous attractions we saw in a limited time, but it was a beautiful experience, one I hope I am able to experience again.

Cheap Car Insurance – How to Get It

Car Insurance Guy asked:

With gas prices being the way they have people all over the country have started to get creative with their finances and the costs associated with auto travel.

Prices vary from company to company, so it pays to shop around. Get at least four to five price quotes. You will find that there are several websites out there that can save you the time from doing this the slow and hard way as they will often get you quotes from up to a dozen companies all at once. You can call companies directly or access information on the Internet. Your state insurance department may also provide comparisons of prices charged by major insurers. And no, companies like Progressive that claim they will compare other companies, but they are an insurance company, so they are not to be trusted. They only have one interest, and that is to promote their own business.

Bigger is not always better. There are several low cost automobile insurance companies offering competitive rates in relation to the big names out there. This makes it possible to save a bundle on this expense. Many people seem to ignore this cost and tend to accept the burden of expensive insurance even when monthly payments almost match a car payment. In one case, I lowered my car insurance rates by about 50% when I found a good local company (I had switched from a really big name company).

One of the best ways to get cheap car insurance is simply to use a service that forces insurance agents and brokers to compete against one another. At the end of this article is one example of such a site. As soon as you finish your online quote request, multiple agents will contact you. But it is important to NOT sign up with any one of them immediately-Instead, let them know that you are awaiting calls from other local insurance providers. After 5 or so of these people have contacted you, you should have a good idea of what sort of range you might expect to pay.

Then, if you really want to get the cheapest car insurance possible, simply tell the agents that you are ready to buy within the next 24 hours with whichever company offers you the lowest insurance rates. This really puts the fire under them, and is sure to create the most optimal pricing for you. Of course, be sure to carry through on your promise.

If it makes sense, you may want to consider getting a bundle package. Basically, see what it might cost to insure not only your car, but also your home, property, health and life insurance. This can save a person around 10% – 30% depending on the company you go with; and it does make paying your bills easier as well.

Oh, and one more tip, remember that the more info you provide upfront, the more accurate your quotes will be, and the more likely the insurance companies will be responsive to your inquiry. This is especially true when filling out a quote from multiple companies.

Austin Healey Sprite Classic Car

Classic Cars For Sale asked:

Leaping into production in 1958, the Donald Healey Sprite was a low cost sports car which used existing BMC parts to ensure over heads of the cars productions remained low. The Austin Healey Sprite would prove to be a big success.

The commonly named “Austin Frogeye”, the Mark I Sprite, was a massive success in its three years of production, with no other car competing on price or performance. As its widely used nick name suggests, the distinctive look of the Mark I Sprite owed itself to the round headlamps on the bonnet of the car, nicked named “frog-eye” headlamps. Cheap and easy to maintain, the wings and bonnet was a one piece unit which opened up to allow easy and large access to the engine. The Mark I used the 948cc Austin A-Series engine which was tuneable and capable of 43bhp, the A35 gearbox and axels, and the twin SU carburettors. Equipped with leaf spring suspension to the front, and wishbone suspension to the rear, the Mark I got it suspension from earlier models such as the A35 and Moris Minor.

The Mark II saw some cosmetic changes including the famous headlamps being moved on to the wings, a change of rear bumper, and the introduction of front disc brakes. The Mark II was also equipped with a new larger engine from the Morris Minor 1000 and Morris Minor 1100, increasing the engine size to 1098cc.

A less performance geared Mark III Sprite was more fined with lockable doors, wind up windows, and quarter lights. With the rebadging of the Sprite by BMC to the Midget, the Sprite Mark III was also sold as the MG Midget Mark II.

The Mark IV had two main difference, with an increased capacity to 1275cc and a convertible roof instead of the removable roofs from the earlier variations.

The production of this classic car ended in 1971. Today many of this classic cars are known as “Spridgets” with the classic car enthusiasts community due to the Austin Healey Sprite and the MG Midgets sharing the same design and parts. This makes finding parts relatively easy due to the parts being interchangeable.

national car rentals- Get Out of of Your Dreams and Into Your Dream Car

David Patullo asked:

Let’s face it when you go on vacation or decide to take a road trip most people find it to be exciting to rent a car. After all this gives you the chance to drive a car that under normal circumstances you would not be able to normally afford to drive. Renting a car can make you look and feel like a million dollars. It is a great way to impress a new client for a business meeting.  Renting a car is also great for a weekend getaway, These are a couple of reasons that people rent a car. While it may be fun to rent a car there are some things that you need to keep in mind that will take the fun out of renting a car.

1- Keep in mind that most nationals car rentals  companies will not even consider renting to you if you are under 25 years of age. This can be a bummer for any person that was planning on renting a car for spring break. You will have to have an older adult that will have to rent the car for you.

2- It goes without even saying that you will have to have a drivers license to rent a car. As crazy as it sounds there are those people out there that think they can go to a national car rentals without a license. Also many of the companies will require that you reserve the car on a major credit card. If you don’t have one this might present a problem and again you may have to have another person rent the car for you

3-Another no brainier is the fact that you will have to have your own personal car insurance. Don’t be quick to purchase their insurance plan when they offer it. Call your agent and find out if your policy covers rental cars. If you are covered then there is no need to bother purchasing their coverage, this will save you a ton of money in the end This a trick that many of the national car rentals will not tell you about.

4- When dealing with national car rentals, my advice is to make sure that you call ahead and ask about prices and availability on particular model. The last thing that you want to do is show up to the rental place and find that the only models available are the cheap economy cars that look like they are a reject from 1970. Call ahead or many car rental places now offer you the chance to preview a car online along with searching their available fleet.

5- In the end after you have considered all of the other factors, it is time to go and pick up your car. Make it a point that you have all the necessary paperwork with you. Especially your auto insurance policy with you, otherwise you will be in the position that you might have to purchase their insurance anyway and take away from the amount of money that you have available to you on your trip.
